Coaches and buses The major service of coaches in England is to transport passengers between airports and city centres. Students can also travel coaches to other cities. If you are aged 16 to 26, you may apply for “Young Persons Coachcard” offered by National Express to enjoy tickets of a lower price.
The service of buses in England mainly covers one city. And this is one of the most used transports for students in England who do not drive.

Taxi In England, taxis in different regions are in different colours. For example, taxis in London are black.

    The taxi service will be charged in the following ways:
  • according to distance and time
  • according to distance (this mode is only available for taxi booking)

Underground Underground rail service in England is only available within London. There are over 200 stations in London and 60 of them are located at the city centre. Ticket fares are charged according to age, time and length of the tickets. Both students aged 18 or below and students over 18 can buy tickets at a discount price, but in different extents.

Train Train service covers every part of England. It is the most used transportation for people who want to travel to other cities in England. If you are aged between 16 and 25, you can apply for a Youth Pass and enjoy a one-third discount in every journey.

Payphone

You can make local and national phone calls by public payphones. The minimum fee is 60p (including 40p connection charge). The charge for the first 30 minutes is 60p, then 10p for each subsequent 15 minutes or portion thereof. Most UK payphones accept 10p, 20p, 50p, and £1 coins, but some also accept £2.

Mobiles

If you want to use your own mobile number in England, you may first find out if your service provider in Hong Kong offers roaming services. Alternatively, you can buy prepaid card in England without presenting any identity proof. However, if you want to adopt a monthly plan, you have to show your identity and address proof.
