Medical & Insurance

Medical Insurance

All international students in New Zealand have to purchase medical insurance. Students can arrange it before you leave Hong Kong, or request your schools to arrange for you when you enrol.

The insurance for international students usually cover the following treatments:
outpatient services, hospitals, ambulance, specialist treatments. Tertiary students can also see the doctor at the student health centre on campus for a reasonable fee.

Accidents and emergencies

There is a no fault accident compensation scheme called ACC in New Zealand. It covers everyone in the country, including visitors, who suffer any injury in an accident. Whatever the cause and whoever is at fault, you will get subsidised medical and dental care, prescribed medication, X-rays and surgery. But it also means that you cannot sue anyone for damages.

Vehicle insurance

If you drive in New Zealand, you should buy third party insurance. It can cover the lost and injuries caused by you.
