Opening a bank account If you want to open a bank account in Australia, you have to take the following documents:

  • Passport and student visa
  • Identity proof other than passport, e.g. Credit card, student card, confirmation of enrolment letter
  • Address proof
  • Bank Draft or cash

Opening Hours Opening hours of most banks in Australia is between 9:30am and 4:00pm from Monday to Thursday, and 9:30am to 5:00pm on Friday. Most banks are closed in Saturday and Sunday. But there are a few opening on Saturday morning.

Currency

The currency used in Australia is Australian Dollar (A$ or AUD). The 6 denominations of coins are 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c and 50c. And the 5 denominations of banknotes are $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100.
