Education in Australia

If students want to study secondary school in Australia, they need to attend AEAS English test.

AEAS has 3 sections. It takes about 3 hours. The full mark of the test is 100. If the result is between 36 and 60, students have to attend an English course for at most 30 weeks before school starts. If students score 61 or above, they are not required to take any English course.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is available in two formats: Academic and General Training. But overseas study student only require taking the Academic format, which costs HK$1,265.

The test is divided into 4 parts: listening, comprehension, writing and speaking. The whole test takes about 2hours 45 minutes. The highest score for each part is 9. The final score is the average of the 4 parts. There is no passing score.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is an Internet-based test (TOEFL iBT™)。The test has four sections, the total score is 120 and each part scores 30.

Attending TOEFL test in Hong Kong costs US$180. Student can register online, by phone, by mail or in person. If you want to register by mail, it must be sent at least 4 weeks before the test date. Other methods will need 7 days for registration.
